GARNETT — Westphalia School’s Bethany Powls is the Anderson County spelling bee champion. She’ll compete in the Topeka Capital-Journal regional spelling bee on March 3. Anderson County Junior High’s Brady Rockers was second in Friday’s spelldown. Also in spelling action, Jennifer Sibley, Diane Hastert and Tonya Arnett won a special community spelling bee Sunday to mark the 100th anniversary of the Garnett Public Library. Nine teams of three people each took part in the special spelling bee. The winning team, who called themselves the “Spelling Wizards,” also won “best costume” award for their Harry Potter-themed outfits.
