OTTAWA — On a split 3-1 vote, Ottawa city commissioners voted Monday to issue a demolition permit for only the top floor of the former Hometown Computers building at 124 S. Main St. The city staff has continued to urge commissioners to allow the bank that owns the building to demolish it because of its deteriorated condition. However, commissioners have twice refused to accept the staff’s recommendation, saying they’d like to see part of the historic building saved if possible. Commissioners Sara Caylor, Blake Jorgensen and Jeff Richards voted for the partial permit. Mayor Gene Ramsey cast the dissenting vote.
