TOPEKA — The first of three groups of 160 Kansas National Guard soldiers who were deployed to the Horn of Africa for a year will return Thursday. Members of the 1st Battalion of the 161st Field Artillery include soldiers from the Paola detachment. The Guard unit was stationed at a former French Foreign Legion base in Djibouti in northeastern Africa for peace-keeping and stabilization efforts.
