BUCYRUS — Two Bucyrus boys were severely injured when the ATV they were riding hit a pickup truck at west 223rd Street and Switzer Road near Bucyrus Monday evening. The Miami County Sheriff’s office said a 13-year-old boy was driving the ATV south on Switzer Road when he went through a stop sign and hit the pickup which was going east on 223rd Street. His eight-year-old brother was also riding the ATV, the sheriff’s office said. The truck driver, John Butel of Louisburg, told KMBC Channel 9 that he couldn’t stop in time. Butel wasn’t injured. The Miami County Sheriff’s office didn’t identify the boys but says they were both taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital on the Plaza, Kansas City. The department described their injuries as non-life-threatening.
