PAOLA — The man who was reportedly impersonating a law enforcement officer this weekend in Miami County wasn’t impersonating. Miami County Undersheriff Wayne Minckley said the man contacted the sheriff’s department after Miami County issued an alert about someone pulling over people south of Paola. The man is a reserve deputy in Finney County and was visiting family in Miami County, Minckley said. After pulling into a driveway, the man noticed that another vehicle pulled in behind him. Minckley said the second driver was delivering papers. The reserve officer used his light to pull over the vehicle, and the drivers exchanged words, he said. Minckley said he doesn’t know if there will be any charges filed associated with the case. If drivers they are unsure about a vehicle pulling them over, they should try to find a well-lit area to stop and call 911, he said. And if drivers notice that the officer approaching their vehicles is not wearing a uniform, they should ask for identification and call 911 if they’re still suspicious, he said.
