OTTAWA — Kansas historian Marilyn Holt will give a presentation on the “orphan trains” Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Franklin County Visitors Center. Orphan trains brought poor children from the eastern cities to rural Kansas from 1867 until the 1920s.
Holt will offer first-hand accounts of orphan train riders who challenge the warm and sunny picture of childhood in the “good old days.” The Kansas Humanities Council presentation is open and free to the public.
