GARNETT — Subcontractors are wrapping up a project that saw the building of a new, larger water line from the Cedar Valley Reservoir, west of town, to the city of Garnett. Garnett city manager Joyce Martin said that the new pumps at the reservoir performed flawlessly during last week’s tests. The water flowed through the new line at slightly more than double the rate of the previous water line and pumps, she said. The project should be completed this week or next, she said. Because the original contractor walked away from the project because of weather and money problems, and due to other unexpected snags, the project has been several months behind schedule. The city received a grant and low-interest state loan as a result of federal economic stimulus funds.
