KANSAS CITY — Wellsville native and country music star Chely Wright will formally open the first LIKEME Lighthouse in midtown Kansas City on March 10. Wright said the Lighthouse is “will be a welcoming and safe community center for the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender community, their families and straight allies.” Several events are planned in connection with the opening including a benefit concert March 9 at the UMKC Student Union Theater with Wright, Hal Sparks, Alan Cumming, Jennifer Knapp, Thomas Roberts, Tracy Ryerson, Stamie Karakasidis, and Kristie Stremel. Also scheduled is the grand opening of the Lghthouse, a silent art auction and an exclusive benefit screening of “Wish Me Away,” a documentary about Wright announcing she was a lesbian. The Lighthouse will be open seven days a week.
