OSAWATOMIE — A 31-year-old Osawatomie man is in jail after barricading himself inside his home and firing several shots Saturday evening. The Osawatomie Police Department said in a written statement that two persons came to the police station late Saturday night to report about a family member who was intoxicated, possibly suicidal, and was issuing threats. He was reported to be in his residence in the 1700 block of Main Street and police were told he was heavily armed. When the first officer arrived, the man started firing, police said. On several occasions, the man left the house to fire more shots. No one was injured. The Miami County Sheriff’s Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene. Osawatomie police says as Miami County tactical officers evacuated the neighborhood, an Oswaatomie police negotiator contacted the man and he surrendered peacefully after about 15 minutes. The man wasn’t immediately identified.
