TOPEKA — This year’s annual severe storm spotter talks will focus on supercell thunderstorms and severe storm structures and important cloud features. The one-hour talks are presented by the National Weather Service office in Topeka and Kansas City. There’s a presentation tonight at the Lawrence South Middle School, Thursday at the North Lake Community Building in Garnett, March 8 at Celebration Hall in Ottawa, March 15 in the Osage City school auditorium, and March 19 at the Prairie View High School auditorium in LaCygne. All meetings start at 7. All meetings are free and open to the public. As weather and emergency officials hold severe weather training classes in the area, you can start your own preparations for the severe weather season, Franklin County emergency management director Alan Radcliffe said. Everyone should have a all-hazards weather alert radio – and functioning batteries, he said. If anyone needs help with setting the radio and the frequency, Radcliffe said he’d be glad to help.
