OTTAWA — The next county tax sale is Thursday morning. Two small odd-shaped lots will be sold for taxes, said county administrator Lisa Johnson, who did most of the legal work for the sale. The lots probably wouldn’t be of interest to anyone except neighbors, although the city of Ottawa has been interested in one because it includes a stormwater retention pond, she said. She said the county originally started with 30 possible candidates for the tax sale, including a subdivision, but those were winnowed down. County Treasurer Debbie Hough has worked with taxpayers to set up payment schedules and get the properties off the delinquent list, Johnson said. The county’s list is significantly smaller; Johnson said she’s compared Franklin County with other counties, many of which have approximately around 100 properties on their tax sale list.
