OTTAWA — Free dump days at the Franklin County Transfer Station will be the last weekend of April. Saying that he’s already getting phone calls about the dump days, solid waste director Rick Sawin met with county commissioners Monday to outline his plans for dump days. Sawin said he will use the split schedule that was used successfully last year. “Last year it worked great,” Sawin said. “By splitting up east-west, it was a lot easier to handle the higher volume of material coming. That’s why we want to do it again this year.” The transfer station will be accepted roll-off containers free April 12-14 from towns west of U.S. 59, including Pomona, Williamsburg, Princeton and Richmond. Roll-off containers will be accepted free April 19-21 from towns east of U.S. 59 – Wellsville, Rantoul and Lane. Sawin said he’s sending letters to alert city councils in those towns. The public can bring in items for free 8 a.m.-3 p.m. April 27-28. However, tires will not be accepted free of charge, although Sawin said he’s been working on a grant that would allow the county to take tires for free temporarily.
