LANE — A fire severely damaged a house in the Timberlake Estates housing development southeast of Lane Saturday afternoon. Pottawatomie Township Fire Chief James Savage said he’s not ready to estimate the amount of damage but said there was some structural damage and extensive fire, heat and water damage to the house at 35 Timberlake. The retired couple living in the house were at home when the house caught fire and were doing a good job of fighting the flames with a garden hose when firefighters arrived, Savage said. Firefighters from four rural departments – Pottawatomie, Cutler, Lincoln-Ottawa-Harrison and Wellsville – fought the fire. At Savage’s request, the Ottawa Fire Department sent two certified investigators to help determine the cause of the fire, Ottawa Fire
Chief Jeff Carner said. The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately available. The fire started on an outside corner of a garage, Savage said.
