OSAWATOMIE — The Osawatomie City Council is considering improvements to the city sewer plant. The Osawatomie Journal reported that BG Consultants estimates improvements could cost $400,000 to $600,000. The consulting firm’s Brian Kingsley said that after meeting with officials from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, he believes that the city needs to make improvements. Kingsley said his firm will submit a report and have a list of options in about two months. Osawatomie city manager Don Cawby told the Journal that the city has making repairs at the plant but more is needed. If the city can get a special state loan, the city might not need to raise sewer rates to cover the needed improvements, he said.
