OTTAWA — One of the lessons to learn from Severe Weather Awareness Week, be your own best warning system. Franklin County emergency management director Alan Radcliffe reminds you should be aware of weather conditions whenever the National Weather Service issues a weather watch. He also said you shouldn’t depend on storm sirens, which were designed to provide warnings to people in urban areas outside. There are other useful methods, include cell phones programmed for weather warnings, he said. Buy and listen to an all-hazards weather radio, he said. Franklin County listeners should tune their weather radios or scanners to the Hall’s Summit transmitter at VHF frequency 162.425 Mhz. You can also sign up for automated alert systems such as Franklin County’s ISIS.
