BALDWIN CITY – A Nebraska railroad dining company is planning to move to Baldwin City and rent the Midland Railroad facilities for its trains. Because of switch in the landlords, Elkhorn Valley Rail Car Corporation’s Bruce Eveland said his company must leave Fremont, Neb., where the company had been leasing railroad tracks from a Fremont-based excursion railroad. The company, which serves wine on its Nebraska dinner cars, has been awaiting the passage of a bill proposed by by Baldwin City representative Teri-Lois Gregory that allows alcohol to be served aboard railroad cars. The Kansas House overwhelmingly approved the bill this week. The bill now goes to the senate. Gov. Sam Brownback has expressed support. Gregory said the law would also allow other excursion railroads in Kansas to serve alcohol aboard dining cars.
