OTTAWA – As a major deadline looms for No Child Left Behind – a deadline that most experts say is impossible to meet – many states are demanding and getting waivers from the federal government for the deadline. Ottawa school Supt. Dean Katt said Kansas is one of those states that has asked for a waiver. He said state education officials, teachers and school board members are looking at more realistic alternatives, and the Ottawa board has been looking at those, including one favored plan that charts continued student growth.
