OTTAWA – An astro couple will find a new frontier at Ottawa University. Steve and Eileen Hawley are this year’s speakers for OU’s annual Hostetter-DeFries Family Endowed Cultural Event March 28 and 29. Steve Hawley, an Ottawa native who attended school in Salina, is a retired astronaut who made five flights aboard the space shuttle. He’s now a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Kansas. His wife Eileen was director of communications and public affairs for NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston and was the “Voice of Mission Control” for more than 40 space shuttle and space station missions, including John Glenn’s historic return to space in 1998. She is a lecturer at the KU school of journalism. The couple will present “Inside NASA” on March 28 at the Fredrikson Center and “Wings in Orbit” on March 29 during the weekly OU chapel service.
