LAWRENCE — Beginning next week, the University of Kansas will host a lecture series about the Arab Spring featuring several academic and social media experts. This series is designed to cast new light on the revolutions in the Middle East through history and political science, art history and social media. Next Monday at 7:30 p.m., UCLA history professor James Gelvin will speak on “The Arab Uprisings at the Intersection of the National and Transnational,” at the commons at Spooner Hall at KU. “Creativity and Revolution: Egypt at a Crossroads,” by Jessica Winegar, assistant professor of anthropology at Northwestern University, will be 5:30 p.m. April 4 at Spencer Museum of Art auditorium. ”Interview with Andy Carvin,” will be 7:30 p.m. April 11 at KU’s Dole Institute of Politics. Carvin, senior strategist at the social media desk of National Public Radio, will talk about the use of social media in the Arab Spring. The lectures are free and open to the public.
