OTTAWA — Franklin County commissioners went into executive session for 45 minutes this morning with the attorney they hired to look at personnel matters involving County Clerk Shari Perry. Prior to the executive session, Gene Hirt, Williamsburg, defended Perry at this morning’s meeting and read of list of insurance-related payments made to other county employees over the years. Commissioners have been eager to publicize information about Perry while making the other payments behind closed doors, he said. Commissioners made no response Last week, the attorney, Kevin Case, told commissioners he submitted a report to the Attorney General’s office concerning an elected county official. He didn’t name the official but last year, Case was involved in a matter in which county commissioners ordered Perry not to communicate with anyone in the Franklin County EMS except by writing and only if the note was submitted to county administrator Lisa Johnson. Case also told commissioners last week he was investigating a demand letter sent by Perry’s attorney demanding $175,000 for what he called violations of Perry’s federal health privacy rights. Perry filed a Freedom of Information request concerning the letter and Case’s report. Perry said although the county sent her a copy of her demand letter, there’s been no response to the rest of her request. Under state law, the county must make some response by today, she said.
