TOPEKA — Any advocates of the “eating raw” diet and lifestyle should be aware of the dangers it poses when it comes to consuming raw milk, the Kansas Department of Agriculture said. A recent study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that disease outbreaks from raw milk and products made from it may be as much as 150 times greater than those products made from pasteurized milk, the state agency said. The KDA said raw milk can contain harmful bacteria that cause diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal cramping. Kansas outlaws the selling of raw milk in a retail setting, but farmers are breaking no laws when they sell to a consumer directly from their farm.
