GARNETT — Higher prices for oil have squeezed area drivers who now pay more to fill up their gas tanks. However, the Anderson County Review reported the boost in price has led to a new oil boom in Anderson County. As crude oil prices bounced above $100 per barrel last month, local drillers, who have been active recently, began drilling even more new oil wells. It costs about $10,000 to $15,000 to drill a new well, and it appears drillers believe higher prices will stay a while, the paper said. The Kansas Geological Survey’s Lynn Watney said that areas with a long history of oil production, such as Anderson County, have seen a resurgence of drilling. The Geological Survey said the number of wells have nearly doubled from around 850 to more than 1,600 in Anderson County in the last seven years.
