OTTAWA — An instructor at Neosho County Community College will discuss the Ottawa Tribe during a Coffee and Learn session Wednesday morning at 8 at the college’s Ottawa campus. Kevin Blackwell has researched the Ottawa Tribe and will discuss the tribe’s movements from Canada and their influence in Kansas. The session is sponsored by the Garnett State Savings Bank and is free to the public. The city and university are named after the tribe, which had a reservation in the area, until they were moved to Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, after some shady land deals.
