CARBONDALE — The search in an area where a decomposed human body was found in rural Osage County northwest of Carbondale has ended after three days.
Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn said the search, also involved search dogs and the Northeast Kansas “M-Squad,” included the draining of two ponds and going through a large burn pile. Several bones and bone fragments were found, she said. First Call Morgue is examining the bones to determine the sex and age of the person and how long the body was there, she said. There aren’t any active missing persons cases in Osage County. A mushroom hunter found the body Saturday night DNA testing will be done in an attempt to identify the person, Dunn said. The testing could take several months, she said. It’s still unknown whether the death is a result of homicide, suicide or natural causes, she said.
