OTTAWA — Franklin County Attorney Heather Jones has announced her resignation and won’t seek re-election. She will become an assistant district attorney in Johnson County, where she will be the section chief of the sex crimes and child abuse division. Her last day with Franklin County is May 22. Jones has been in the Franklin County Attorney’s office for nearly 12 years. She was an assistant county attorney for five years until January 2005, when she took office as Franklin County Attorney, after winning an election against then-County Attorney John Dowell. She said she will continue to live in Franklin County and commute daily to Olathe. Local Republican committee members will select her successor, who will be appointed by Gov. Sam Brownback.
