LAWRENCE — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Ottawa Police Department sent officers to Lawrence Saturday and Monday nights to help Lawrence police maintain order among the thousands of revelers celebrating the Kansas Jayhawks’ come-from-behind win over Ohio State and Monday night’s title game – which didn’t end so happily. About 300 deputies and city officers from Douglas, Johnson, Franklin, Shawnee and Jefferson counties were in Lawrence. Five Ottawa officers went to Lawrence Saturday and seven went Monday and were assigned to a particular block downtown, said Ottawa Lt. Adam Weingartner said. Area departments help each out for big events, he said. Douglas County and Lawrence officers come to Ottawa to help with the Ol’ Marais River Run car show each year, he said.
