OTTAWA — Two incumbent Pomona City Council members have been returned to office. Richard Adler, who got 86 votes, and Rick Smith, who got 78 votes, are the top two vote getters. Coming in third was Carole Hopkins, with 77 votes. Other candidates and their vote tallies are: Joann Hancock, 29 votes, Kirk Lauritsen, 56 votes, Bill Lloyd, 38, Lindsay Meyer, 19, Jerry Slavens, 33, Scott Snethen, 59 . The Osage City School District voters have approved a $6.8 million dollar bond issue. There were 641 yes votes and 325 no votes. This wraps the bond issued around expiring bonds, and it means an increase of about 3 mills for taxpayers. The bond will pay for remodeling the Osage City Elementary School and convert the elementary gym into a fitness center, and build a combination gym and storm shelter. It also will make improvements to the middle school gym, and improvements to the high school track and football field. The Garnett City Commission will see a new face. Mayor Mike Norman was unseated by Preston Peine. Peine received 229 votes, Norman got 174 votes, Mark Magner got 73, and Randy Kennard got 20. In Miami County, the Lousiburg Mayor will be Travis Thompson, who got 326 votes, and Curt Shreckengaust received 153 votes. The other city council races in Louisburg were uncontested, giving Steve Ward an easy ride into office. In the Osawatomie City Council Races, Tamara Maichel won another term…she won 44 votes, and challenger Nick Hampson got 28 votes, Christopher Klein received 4. The other 3 Osawatomie Council seats were uncontested. Lawrence Dickinson got 29 votes, John Farley has 40 votes, and Karen LaDuex has 61 votes. On The Paola City Council, there were two uncontested races…Gee Gee Wilholite won with only 6 votes, and Kevin Clouse got 36 votes.
