CHILES — A 37-year-old Paola man was killed and a Raytown, Mo., woman was critically injured in a head-on crash Monday afternoon near Chiles in Miami County. Richard McCrackin was driving west on 247th Street when his pickup apparently crossed the center line at Flint Street and hit a east-bound car driven by Ashley Brown, 20, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department said. McCrackin died at the scene. Brown was taken to a Kansas City area hospital The sheriff’s office said neither driver appeared to have been wearing a seatbelt.
