GARNETT — Preston Peine became the newest Garnett city commissioner Tuesday night. Peine upset long-time commissioner Mike Norman in the recent city election earlier this month. Peine is the computer services director for Anderson County USD 365. Peine said learning the ropes, Garnett’s downtown and the city electric and natural gas utility will be among his most immediate concerns. For his part, Norman said he’s grateful to have served as commissioner for 21 years and points to a lengthy record of accomplishments while he was commissioner. Greg Gwin was elected mayor for this year.
