GARNETT — Anderson County Sheriff Jeff Hupp has fired the sheriff’s detective who filed for sheriff against him. The Anderson County Review reports on Facebook that Hupp fired Vernon Valentine for his electoral challenge. The Review reported that in a letter to Valentine, Hupp said he was firing him for being a candidate for sheriff in opposition to Hupp and “for conduct disruptive to the operation of the department.” Hupp, a retired KBI agent who was picked by Anderson County Democratic officials to fill the unexpired term of Scot Brownrigg, is a former Republican who switched to Democrat after his appointment. A 13-year veteran of the department, Valentine filed as a Republican.
