OTTAWA – The Franklin County Commission agreed Wednesday to a proposal to repave the deck of the Sand Creek Road bridge over Tauy Creek, northeast of Ottawa. Killough Construction will grind off the top layer of the pavement on the bridge and repave it with a layer of asphalt for $8,100. Parents taking their students to Bethel Christian Academy had complained about the condition of the 60-year-old bridge. Commissioners Ed Taylor and Colt Waymire say the fix will suffice for two to three years until the county can get state or federal money for a more long-term solution, such as replacing or doing more extensive work on the bridge deck. Commissioners ignored the advice offered by Norm Wooge, who said adding a layer of asphalt to the concrete deck wouldn’t be a good solution and that a layer of concrete is a better option.
