OTTAWA – City and business officials and youngsters from Sacred Heart School helped dedicate the new walking bridge over Skunk Run in City Park Wednesday. The bridge needed repairs and didn’t meet federal accessibility standards so city employees lifted the bridge, Mayor Blake Jorgensen. It would have cost too much to have private contractors make the improvements, so city public works employees offered to rebuild, he said. City utility workers lifted the old bridge off the crossing and and then when it was redone, installed it over Skunk Run, he said. Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce’s Mike Skidmore lauded city employees and told the Sacred Heart students that in future years, they could tell people how they were there for the dedication. He also added that as a child he was terrified to cross the bridge after his older brother convinced him there was a troll under it. “I can assure you, kids, there are no trolls there now so you can walk or take your bicycles over it.”
