OTTAWA – A foot race with police will win an Ottawa man an all-expenses-paid trip to Lawrence – but he may find that the Douglas County jail is no prize. The race occurred after police officers were summoned to a report of an accident at Forest Park, Lt. Adam. There wasn’t an accident but when officers tried to pull over a vehicle leaving the park, the driver refused to pull over and took off, he said. The vehicle stopped behind the Co-op building in the 300 block of North Main and one of the occupants tried to flee. Dominique Burnett, 21, was caught after a short foot chase, Weingartner said. Burnett was booked into the jail on a Douglas County warrant. He was also charged with obstruction and leaving the scene. He is sought in connection with a robbery in Lawrence. However, the Douglas County Sheriff’s office declined to give details until they have him in custody. Also arrested in connection with the chase, the driver, Blake Sparks Garner, 22, Ottawa, and Joseph Hartsell, 22, Ottawa.
