LAWRENCE – A Chinese professor who is an expert on English-language poetry and African-American literature will give a lecture about Langston Hughes Monday at noon at Kansas University’s Watson Library at Monday noon. Luo Liang-gong said LangstonHughes is most widely read American poet in China. Chinese scholars and writers first accepted him because of his left-leaning writings in the 1930s, and his combination of art with constant social engagement, he said. His lecture is free and open to the public. Before moving to New York City, Hughes grew up in Lawrence.
