BURLINGTON – A 23-year-old Garnett woman will face a Coffey County jury June 25 for first-degree murder in the death of her newborn baby a year ago. Karen Marie Bailey is accused of giving birth April 2, 2011, to a baby boy in Coffey County. Authorities said she left the baby for several hours in her car where he died. The Anderson County Review reported that she gave the baby’s body to his grandfather, Jack Geisler, along K-58 in rural Anderson County the next day. Geisler called police. Since then, Bailey has been in the Coffey County jail on $500,000 bond. Geisler told the Review that the family has created a Facebook page in the baby’s honor. The page is called BEN, which stands for begin, education and nurture our kids. The page offers education about child abuse and inspirational quotes. Geisler said he wants his grandson’s name Ben to stand for something – and not for anger.
