OTTAWA – Franklin County Republican officials have picked assistant county attorney Stephen Hunting to be the next county attorney. He’ll succeed Heather Jones, who is becoming an assistant county attorney in Johnson County. Hunting’s name goes to Gov. Sam Brownback, who will make the appointment. The county attorney’s position comes up for election this year. So far, there’s one person on the ballot. The Kansas Libertarian Party nominated Anderson County county attorney Fred Campbell for the Franklin County spot, as well as Anderson, Osage and Coffey counties in the Fourth Judicial District.
