GARNETT — Lance Hedges of Garnett is the new director of conservation for the Nature Conservancy of Kansas. As director of conservation, Hedges will oversee efforts and partnerships to conserve key native plant and animal communities of the region, the Anderson Count Review reported. One of Hedges’ goals will be to address infrastructure improvements at conservancy-owned ranches in Kansas. That includes maintaining fences, roads and water systems, and sound grazing management. Before joining the conservancy, Hedges was a biologist and supervisor with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
