NEW YORK — An excerpt from a play written by Pomona native James Still was performed Monday night at this year’s James Beard Foundation Awards in New York. Actor Robert Neal performed Still’s one-man play entitled “I Love to Eat: Cooking With James Beard,” during the award ceremony. The play finished its Indianapolis run last fall and will be debut at the Round House Theatre outside Washington in October and the Portland Center Stage in Beard’s hometown of Portland, Ore., in January. The awards ceremony is considered the nation’s most prestigious recognition program honoring culinary professionals. It’s named after the first chef to have his own broadcast television cooking show. Still, a Kansas University graduate who now lives in Los Angeles, has been nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize.
