OTTAWA — At Wednesday’s meeting, nurse practitioner Sandi Staneart criticized the Franklin County Commission’s recent decision to cancel her contract to provide medical services at the Franklin County jail and juvenile detention. The county decided to hire a part-time nurse practitioner to work at the jail, the juvenile detention center and the health department. Staneart said health director Midge Ransom’s figures seriously underestimated the costs of hiring a part-time employee. However, county administrator Lisa Johnson said the change was made to help stretch service to the three departments at the same cost and defended the numbers. However, Johnson said she apologized to Staneart for learning about the change from news accounts rather from county officials personally.
