OTTAWA – The exhibit “Poverty A to Z will show viewers about Kansas neighbors who live in poverty in a one-night show tonight 6:30 to 8 at the Ottawa First United Methodist Church. The exhibit is a multi-media program incorporating photography with the spoken and written word, presenting voices and stories from across the state, said Richard Jackson, ECKAN chief executive officer. Members of Ottawa Youth in Government helped prepare the program, he said. “The stories are real,” Jackson said. “The art is original. The impact is life-changing.” ECKAN and other social agencies are helping record numbers of people because of the economy and high unemployment, he said. Those agencies are seeing people they have never seen before as families fall out of the middle class into poverty because of the economic woes, he said. Poverty A to Z is part of the activities to mark Community Action Month. A reception will also be held at the church at the same time as the exhibit. ECKAN will also hold a ground-breaking today at 5:30 at 1121 N. Main St..
