OTTAWA – Ottawa High School won’t have its building trades classes next year. The district hasn’t been able to find a new teacher to succeed a retiring building trades teacher, Supt. Dean Katt said. The district has contacted colleges and universities, and trade groups and run several advertisements but hasn’t attracted any qualified instructors, Katt said. Instead, because of time pressures, the high school will hire a math teacher, he said. The search will continue for a building trades instruction in hopes of restarting the program in two years, he said. Building trades students are finishing up a house and that will be sold later this year, he said.
