BALDWIN CITY — A fire early Sunday morning damaged the Lumberyard Arts Center in Baldwin City. The fire started before 4:30 Sunday morning at the back of the building, said Baldwin City Fire Chief Allen Craig. Several other rural departments responded to held the Baldwin City department, he said. The fire caused significant damage to part of the building, located at 718 High Street, he said. Although the state fire marshal has been called to investigate the fire, and although Craig said he considers all fires suspicious until proven otherwise, there’s no immediate evidence of arson. Although part of the was damaged, art center caretaker Tony Brown said there was no damage to any of the art collection.
