OTTAWA — The Kansas Attorney General’s office has concluded its six-month investigation into charges that a Franklin County elected official violated a variety of personnel rules. Consulting attorney Kevin Case, a former assistant attorney general, was hired by the Franklin County Commission to investigate the allegations and present information to the attorney general’s office and he discussed the AG’s conclusions with commissioners this morning: Although Case didn’t name the official; two months ago, the commissioners censured County Clerk Shari Perry and formally warned her against interfering with the investigation or trying to intimidate other county employees. The letter from the attorney general’s office said the office had looked at recall or ouster proceedings, Case said. The letter said the office prefers that “the effectiveness of elected officials is best left to the local electorate and the democratic process,” Case said. Perry is up for re-election this year and faces a challenge in the Republican primary. Perry said she’s being victimized. Perry said she doesn’t what the allegations are and that no one from the attorney general’s office bothered to contact her during the course of the investigation.
