SANTA MONICA, Calif — Police shot and killed a mountain lion Tuesday morning in a downtown Santa Monica, Calif., office building courtyard near a preschool, a popular outdoor mall and downtown park, Associated Press and Yahoo News reported. Police made several attempts to capture the young male cat before killing it. National Park Service biologist Jeff Sikich said a mountain lion had never been seen in the very urban Santa Monica downtown before. The National Park Service has been tracking 10 mountain lions with GPS radio-collars in the Santa Monica Mountains but Sikich said the downtown cat wasn’t one of them..
