POMONA LAKE – Park personnel at area reservoirs are bracing for Memorial Day. The Memorial Day weekend is the official start of summer at the lakes, and with hot temperatures forecast, this weekend will be one of the biggest of the year at Pomona, Hillsdale, Clinton and Melvern lakes. There will lots of people at Pomona Lake this weekend and the park staff have been checking over park sites and making sure everything is ready, said the Army Corps of Engineers’ Aaron Wendland. Among the activities this weekend: The Miami County Bass Club will have a tournament Saturday at Melvern Lake; and The Friends of Pomona State Park annual biscuit and gravy feed will be Saturday morning 7 to 10 at the Southwind Shelter House at Pomona State Park. If you head to the lake for the first time this year, you should remember a few safety precautions, including having everyone in a boat or on the water to wear life jackets, avoid mixing alcohol while on the water and keeping a constant eye on children while they’re swimming, Wendland said.
