LANE — A pickup truck hung up on a crossing near Vermont Road near Lane was hit by a Union Pacific train this afternoon. No one was injured. Someone had built an unauthorized crossing of the track and the pickup high-centered on the track, Deputy Jarod Fredricks said. The owner was underneath the truck trying to jack up the truck so he could free it when he heard the train approaching, Fredricks said. The man tried to flag down the train. “The engineer told me, ‘If I can see you waving your arms, it’s already too late’,” Fredricks said. The crash left the truck, which was destroyed, wrapped around the front of the locomotive, “a train hood ornament, basically,” Fredricks said.
