EMPORIA — The exhibit “Stringtown’ will be on display in the visitor center at Red Rocks State Historic Site at Emporia, the home of the Pullitzer Prize-winning Emporia Gazette publisher William Allen White. “Stringtown” pays tribute to the African-American neighborhood that existed in Emporia from 1850 through 1920. Stringtown was compiled by Carlos Pringle, Emporia State social sciences graduate student, from the university archives. Stringtown is on display in June, beginning Friday. Admission fee is $5 adults, and $3 for students members of the Kansas Historical Foundation and children five and under are free.
