LaCROSSE — A powerful line of severe storms stretching from Kansas to Wisconsin unleashed golf-ball-sized hail across central Kansas Sunday night. That followed a weekend of tornadoes in central Kansas including a tornado that touched down near downtown LaCrosse in central Kansas late Friday night. Several tornadoes lashed in Rush and rRussell counties Friday night, injuring one person, destroying some homes and buildings, and knocking down numerous trees and power lines, the Kansas Division of Emergency Management said. Rush County officials reported five tornadoes in the county including the one in the city of LaCrosse. The LaCrosse tornado damaged about four blocks of the town. No injuries were reported. U.S. 183 north of LaCrosse and K-4 west of the town were closed because of downed power lines.
