OVERBROOK — Two Osage County cities have received waste tire recycling grants from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s Bureau of Waste Management. Carbondale received nearly $3,668 and Overbrook received $2,504.
Carbondale used its grants to buy park penches, picnic tables and handicapped-accessible picnic tables made from recycled rubber. Overbrook used its grant to buy handicapped-accessible picnic tables made from recycled rubber. The state awarded 43 waste tire recycling grants. The grants are funded through a 25-cent tax paid on the purchase of new tires.
