ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Correctional Facility has honored Lake Region RC&D for the Adopt-a-Bike program. Lake Region chair Don Stottlemire said Lake Region has taken nearly 4,500 discarded bicycles to Ellsworth, where inmates have rebuilt them. Lake Region also buys bicycle parts for Ellsworth, Stottlemire said. Once they’re rebuilt, the bicycles are given to poor children or to adults who don’t have transportation. Lake Region has received a little more than 1,400 of the rebuilt bicycles which were given to children for Christmas in the six-county region that makes up the Lake Region, he said.
